PPC to CPA Case Study – Part 1

by on November 23, 2009

Here’s a quick update to my “sophisticated PPC to CPA” case study lol.

I’m trying something different by starting out with Yahoo! for this campaign.

I started a rough and dirty campaign to get some results to tweak from but unfortunately some components were not set up properly so it’s kind of hard for me to tweak from my results so far.

Here’s the basic flow:

1) Send Yahoo! traffic to iFramed page generated by LPGenX.
2) Exit traffic is captured by Traffic Regenerator.

I’m pushing an offer from Revenue Loop, and testing offers from Hydra, Neverblue, and a private network I’m in.

Current stats:
CPC = $1.12
Number of clicks = 42
Cost = $47.18
Number of leads = 1
Earnings = $8

So in summary I’m making an obscene loss of –83%.

It’s the first time I’m doing a CPA campaign with Yahoo! so some things weren’t working out for me.

1) I didn’t use keyword tracking (DOH!). I’ve added the LPGenX %%keyword%% token into the landing page and “enabled Tracking URL” in Yahoo! control panel. (Make sure you do this!)

2) Traffic Regenerator wasn’t showing up. I emailed support and found out I had to leave a margin at the top of the landing page.

I’m also trying out the “tune my campaign” feature in Yahoo! so hopefully it helps to bring my advertising costs down a little.

I’ll also be expanding to Google Search and Content networks, and MSN Adcentre.

I’ll also be trying out a second-tier search engine which I won’t be disclosing at the moment.

I’m tracking all my stats from the different networks in an excel spreadsheet.

Hopefully I can turn a profit by the end of this week!
