Creative Capitalism

by on November 18, 2009

If you read my “About Me” page, you already know that I’m a supporter of Kiva.

I recently read two pretty cool books about using capitalism for good:

1) A Billion Bootstraps

2) Creative Capitalism

If you’re also interested in the mechanics of how money can be leverage on a massive scale to help entrepreneurs from third-world countries break out from the poverty cycle, I highly recommend the above books.

I’m including a couple of golden nuggets from Creative Capitalism which I jotted down as I was reading the book.

The least needy see the most improvement, and the most needy see the least.

Diseases like malaria that kill over a million people a year get far less attention than drugs that help with baldness.

Climate change will have the biggest effect on people who have done the least to cause it,

So, why do people benefit in inverse proportion to their needs?

Market incentives.

I strongly believe that if we want to make a difference in this world, we gotta look at things from angles that the average guy doesn’t.

Something to think about!
